Introduction
Khartoum
sits at the confluence of the Blue and White Niles. The city is
often called the tri-capital, as it is actually three cities in
one. The oldest part—Khartoum proper—sits south, between the two
rivers. On the west bank is Omdurman, the old Mahdist capital, and
on the north bank the semi-industrial city of Khartoum North (or
Bahri).
Khartoum
is a quiet place and lacks some of the more obvious attractions of
many cities, so do not expect great things of the nightlife.
However, the city
has a relaxed charm, is friendly and safe.
